It follows reformist educational approaches like Montessori, encouraging hands-on, project-based learning. The focus is on creating a supportive environment where children learn through expThe volunteers will support daily activities at an alternative school with a holistic and student-centered approach. They will assist teachers during lessons and help create a positive and inclusive learning environment. You have the chance to work with students by supporting their individual learning needs, encouraging creativity, and helping with tasks and activities such as workshops, group work, and outdoor learning. As a volunteer you will also contribute to students’ social development by building positive relationships and supporting a respectful and open atmosphere.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The two volunteers will be provided with their own small apartments located next to each other. During working days, they will have the opportunity to have lunch at the school. For all other meals, they will receive a food allowance. In addition, volunteers will receive the full pocket money amount of 7 euros per day, in accordance with the program guidelines. Transport costs are covered through a regional ticket for Styria, as well as a half-price discount card for travel within Austria.

Training during the activity

The volunteers will participate in an on-arrival and a mid-term training organized by the Austrian National Agency. Each volunteer will have a personal mentor at the school who provides guidance and support throughout their stay. Teachers and staff will actively include the volunteers in teamwork, encouraging them to contribute to planning, activities, and the daily life of the school community.

Participant profile

The ideal volunteer is motivated, responsible, and enthusiastic about working with children in an alternative education setting. They should have good communication skills, patience, and the ability to adapt to different situations and individual needs. Creativity, a willingness to contribute ideas, and an interest in innovative teaching methods are highly valued. The volunteer should enjoy teamwork, be open to learning, and show respect for diversity and inclusion within the school community. Previous experience with children, educational activities, or social projects is a plus, but not required. A positive attitude, flexibility, and a commitment to personal and professional growth are essential.
