ESC volunteers at Højboskolen

Højboskolen

Hørning, Denmark

Description

Højboskolen is looking for four volunteers from different countries for a period of approximately 10-11 months to participate in activities at our school and After-School Club. Tasks include assisting in various classes, the school canteen, practical assignments, and After-School Club activities.. They will also engage in sustainability-focused learning projects, contribute to the School FabLab, and organize events with the pupils. Our aim is to contribute to a deeper understanding of multicultural values, equal rights, emphasizing diversity and global respect as well as the importance of sustainability. One of our aims is giving our pupils the opportunity of upgrading their language skills by hearing the correct pronunciation in classes, where the volunteers will participate. Additionally, we want to provide both pupils and volunteers with insight into different cultures, helping them gain a broader understanding of their own language, identity, and Danish culture.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers will be accommodated near Højboskolen in an apartment with their own room, living together with other the volunteers, sharing the kitchen, bathroom, toilet and washing facilities, and a small garden. In the city of Hørning, the Volunteers can get around on bike or on foot. If the volunteers want to go to e.g. Aarhus, the nearest large city, it is only a 10 minutes ride by train. Lunch will be served at the School, and other diet-, transport- and pocket- money will be payed every month.

Training during the activity

Mandatory trainings are 'On Arrival traing' and 'Mid Term Training' offered by the national agency, and Danish lessons at the School every week. Højboskolen is a public school for primary and lower secondary education and has 560 pupils from the age of 6 to 16 years. 15% of teh pupils are bilingual. Højboskolen is an open-plan school and our core values are community, commitment, professionalism, innovation and creativity. Our dedicated staff includes 40 teachers, 12 pedagogues, 4 managers, and 8 employees working in administration, the canteen, and the service team.

Participant profile

Højboskolen wants to receive applications from young people ranging from the age of 18 – 28. We encourage everyone to apply regardless of ethnicity, sexuality, mental health and religion. Experience working with children is an advantage, but not a requirement. What matters most to us is that volunteers are open-minded, proactive, and willing to take initiative. Since school life is dynamic and also many activities take place outdoors throughout the year, flexibility is essential. Our application form must be completed. Only applicants who have filled in our application form is taken into consideration. Please find it at our webpage: https://hoejboskolen.aula.dk/vores-skole/internationalt-samarbejde
