The power of together

Forest kindergarten "Vėjo šalies vaikai"

Skautu slenis

Ukmergė, Lithuania

Description

The forest kindergarten is located in a natural setting, 30 km from Ukmergė, and is part of a scout campsite. It includes a cosy yurt where children can enjoy indoor activities, while most of their time is spent outdoors playing, exploring, and having fun in nature. This placement takes place four days a week, from 8:00 to 17:00. Volunteers support the daily life of the kindergarten by playing with the children, helping them get ready for outdoor activities, joining hikes, and assisting during mealtimes. It is a big advantage if a volunteer can organise a weekly activity for the children, such as singing songs, teaching some basic English words, or doing crafts.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers will share an apartment with other volunteers in Ukmergė. Living together offers a good opportunity to build friendships and support one another during the project. A car will be arranged for commuting - great if volunteer has driving license. Food allowance and pocket money will be transferred to the volunteer’s bank account.

Training during the activity

There will be On arrival training organised by National Agency. Once a month we will have volunteers meeting with the coordinating organisation to discuss the projects, any problems and some nice trips occasionally

Participant profile

We are looking for a warm, responsible, and active volunteer who enjoys spending time with young children and feels comfortable in an outdoor environment. The ideal volunteer is patient, cheerful, and ready to take part in the daily life of a forest kindergarten, including outdoor play, hikes, and mealtimes. The volunteer should be prepared to spend a lot of time outdoors in all seasons and be ready to experience Lithuanian winter with its snow and cold weather :) We value someone who is interested in alternative education, free play, and child-led learning. This opportunity would be especially valuable for someone who is curious about forest kindergarten education or perhaps dreams of creating their own educational space or kindergarten in the future. It is also highly appreciated if the volunteer can bring their own ideas.
