European Solidarity Corps

The power of together

Working with young people at Fjället Youth Centre (with competence in social media and digital communication)

Kooperativet Fjället

Angered, Gothenburg, Sweden

Description

Kooperativet Fjället is a youth-focused NGO in Rannebergen, Gothenburg, Sweden, offering leisure activities for young people aged 10–20. The youth work is based on participation and influence, giving young people a real voice in shaping activities and the environment. The centre hosts two European Solidarity Corps (ESC) volunteers who actively contribute to daily activities. Volunteers mainly work as youth workers, supporting and engaging with young people, while also developing their own projects such as sports, cultural activities, crafts, theatre, or music, based on their interests. They are supported by experienced youth workers who guide them in planning and personal development. Additionally, one volunteer with skills in social media and digital communication supports promoting the organisation and its activities online.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Two volunteers share an apartment about 25 minutes from the youth centre by bus. Each has a private bedroom, while kitchen, bathroom, and living room are shared. Volunteers should be comfortable with shared living and daily responsibilities. They receive around 4,500 SEK monthly for food and personal expenses. A public transport card and SIM card are provided. Accommodation, travel, insurance, and visa costs are covered by the ESC programme.

Training during the activity

The volunteers attend the On-arrival training and Mid-term training, which are held in Stockholm by the Swedish National Agency. We encourage the volunteers to stay over the weekend in Stockholm at their own cost in conjunction with these training sessions. The volunteers will receive Swedish language classes which are part of the work hours. The volunteers are also invited to various training opportunities within the KEKS network when such opportunities are given. We always encourage and promote contact and networking with volunteers in Sweden.
