Support Early Childhood & Teacher Development in Rural Nepal

OBCIANSKE ZDRUZENIE KERIC

VIN

KATHMANDU, Nepal

Description

Join a welcoming volunteer team supporting Early Childhood Development (ECD) and teacher development in Okhaldhunga, a rural Himalayan district of Nepal. Volunteers work alongside ViN staff, local buddies and teachers in activities already in place; they do not replace staff or work alone. Proposed activities: support play-based learning through songs, storytelling, drawing, games, and simple literacy and numeracy; help teachers make lessons more interactive through small-group work, classroom games and visual aids; prepare low-cost teaching materials using local resources; support basic English communication and simple digital learning where available; join class observation and teacher reflection meetings; support parent’s sessions on early childhood care and learning. This is a two-way learning experience built on teamwork, safeguarding and mutual respect.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers stay together at the NaraTika Community Learning Centre (NTCLC) www.ntclc.org in Nishankhe, Okhaldhunga, in shared rooms with basic but comfortable facilities, workspace and internet. Three meals a day are provided at the centre. ViN arranges airport pickup, travel between Kathmandu and Okhaldhunga, and return transport. Daily activities are usually reached on foot from the centre. Throughout the placement, volunteers receive daily support from ViN district staff, a supervisor and local buddies.

Training during the activity

Volunteers receive a structured induction before activities begin. It covers ViN’s mission and local context, safeguarding and child protection, health, safety and security, cultural sensitivity, team roles, and basic Nepali language phrases. During the placement, volunteers receive task guidance, mentoring from ViN staff, regular reflection meetings, and ongoing feedback with teachers and supervisors. This helps them contribute responsibly, confidently and respectfully in a rural community setting.

Participant profile

We are looking for team volunteers aged 18–35 who are interested in education, children and community life, and willing to live and work in a rural setting. No teaching qualification or professional experience is required. More important are motivation, patience, adaptability, teamwork, respect for local culture, and willingness to learn. Volunteers should feel comfortable supporting simple, practical activities with children and teachers under guidance from ViN staff. All candidates must meet ESC Humanitarian Aid eligibility and training requirements.
