RURAL AWARENESS-INNER AWARENESS (RA-IA)
PARKERI
Serrada de la Fuente, Spain
Description
The main idea is to create a meaningful experiential journey focused on emotional intelligence and awareness, set in the unique natural environment of rural Madrid. We are looking for volunteers ready to explore their inner world while contributing to a vibrant international community living together in the Spanish countryside. Tasks related to this Group Volunteering Activity are: a) participating in rural community activities such as organic gardening and farming, nature trails or intergenerational encounters with local elderly residents. These contribute to completing 6-7 working hours a day. 2 days per week will be free. b) taking part in daily non-formal education sessions in Sierra Norte de Madrid, exploring themes such as self-awareness, self-love, empathy, conflict resolution and connection with nature — using tools like meditation & mindfulness, movement & body work, outdoor activities, group discussions and peer learning.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will stay at Parkeri's rural house in a small village in the Sierra Norte of Madrid. The house includes shared bedrooms, bathrooms and a communal kitchen where volunteers will cook together with the guidance of the group leaders. Bedding and basic supplies will be provided. The house is surrounded by nature and the local village community, offering a genuine rural living experience. Occasional day trips to nearby towns or natural spaces may be organised as part of the programme. Volunteers will be responsible for daily life activities: cooking together, cleaning etc..
Training during the activity
This is a project rooted in experiential and non-formal learning, following Parkeri's educational approach. It offers volunteers the opportunity to develop key competences in emotional literacy, group facilitation, intercultural communication and community engagement. Volunteers will be involved in activities based on non-formal education methodologies and contributing to the social and cultural life of a rural community. Activities will take place both indoors and outdoors, making full use of the natural surroundings of the Sierra Norte de Madrid. Participants will receive a Youthpass.
Participant profile
We are looking for motivated young people with a genuine interest in emotional education, self-development, non-formal learning or community life. No previous experience is required — curiosity, empathy and a willingness to live and work as part of an international group are what matter most. Also, willingness to live in a town with less than 200 inhabitants, far away from the city. Candidates with fewer opportunities are welcome to apply. Please apply with a short motivation letter explaining your interest in emotional education and rural life 🙂 In Parkeri, we believe in INCLUSION, GENDER EQUITY, LGBTQ+, SOCIAL JUSTICE, SUSTAINABILITY and we have an ANTI-RACIST and DECREASING approach as organization principles.
