Description
Jules Lesven is a general, technological and professional high school with 1400 pupils located on a school campus with 2 other high schools. The 2 ESC volunteers will work at the high school cafeteria, a confortable place, where they will both share an office and manage the cafeteria with some students (selling snacks, stock management, schedule to set up, etc.). They will organise smalls events and animations for students all year long, for i.e. : blind tests, games to win snacks, Christmas/Easter decoration workshop, exhibitions, playlists, language clubs, etc. They will have to offer projects/ideas to set up, it will be the heart of their project! They can also lead workshops or project at the boarding school: yoga, movie nights, etc. Last but not least, they will have to organise key moments: thematical weeks on health, environmental awareness, equality, European countries, etc., tournaments (baby-foot, football, etc.) The project is coordinated by Bij de Brest.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Each volunteer will get his/her own furnished studio flat (9 to 13 m²) in a Youth accomodation centre (FJT) with basic furniture. If a volunteer needs extra furniture, it will be on his/her own budget. FJT is in Brest city centre (15 minutes by bus to Lesven high school, 2 min. walking to main square). FJT collective heating system works from mid-October to mid-March like at the high school. ✔ Food allocation : 240 € per month ✔ Pocket money : 240 € per month ✔ Bus ticket provided/refunded
Training during the activity
✔ Pre-departure training (PDT): organised by the sending organisation ✔ On-arrival training (OAT): organised by the French National Agency ✔ Mid-term training (MTT): organised by the French National Agency Besides, during his/her ESC the volunteer will get: ✔ a task-support mentor, Eva Rosot, senior school administrator Her office is at the school life department, 50 meters far from the volunteers’ one. ✔ a personal mentor
Participant profile
We are looking for 2 volunteers from European Union countries, from 18' up to 30'. Basic skills in French as well as basic IT competencies are requested. Students could have a very bad level in English, that's why it's important to be able to communicate with them in French and to go out your comfort zone to create a link with them. ➡️Candidates should have: ✔ a good contact with youngsters ✔ team work ability ✔ the willingness to set up and lead activities and to be actively involved in the activities ✔ a strong motivation ✔ the ability to take initiatives ➕Besides, volunteers must respect the following rules: ✔ Be on time ✔ Respect the schedule ✔ Warn if he·she is exceptionnally late ✔ Always provide a medical certificate in case of absence (It serves as proof that he·she is actually unfit for work) ✔ Take good care of the flat ✔ To NOT host guests for over the night or after 22:00 PM ⚠️Please be aware an ESC volunteer is not a teacher, he·she can lead workshops/presentations in classes but only from time to time.
