Information Technology & Digital Communication Officer

NGO MONDO

GHANA DEVELOPING COMMUNITIES ASSOCIATION LBG

Tamale, Ghana

Description

GDCA seeks a proactive, creative volunteer to strengthen its digital presence, internal tech capacity, and community digital inclusion work. The role combines IT, digital communication, staff training, and community empowerment. The volunteer will manage GDCA’s social media, especially Instagram and LinkedIn, create engaging content, support branding consistency, and improve outreach and visibility. They will provide basic IT support, improve internal digital organisation and data management, and introduce simple tools to make workflows more efficient. Every 1–2 weeks, they will deliver digital skills training for staff on digital tools, online communication, data organisation, and basic cybersecurity. They will also lead digital literacy training in rural communities, adapting methods to low-resource contexts, and develop an independent digital innovation project with lasting local value together with GDCA staff.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

GDCA will arrange accommodation close to the office, typically a one or two bedroom self-contained flat with soft furnishings for comfort. Utilities, including water, electricity, Internet, and satellite TV, will be included. The flat will have basic kitchen facilities for meal preparation. Alternatively, participants can purchase meals from restaurants or food vendors, though caution is advised with vendors due to sanitary reasons. GDCA will provide transport for official duties. Local taxis and tricycles are available. Foreigners may drive with an international license.

Training during the activity

This opportunity is part of the RISE project (Reinforcing Inclusion through Solidarity and Empowerment), which offers volunteers the possibility to engage in local languages classes or intercultural activities, and benefit from three sides of mentoring (from the supporting organisation, the hosting organisation, and an alumni volunteer). Prior to the deployment, volunteers will go through pre-departure training activities. Once on the field, the volunteers will go through a welcome induction with GDCA.

Participant profile

Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old, reside in one of the eligible countries (EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Turkey), have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months. The ideal candidate should possess strong interpersonal, networking, and communication skills, enabling them to effectively engage with stakeholders and the wider community. Proficiency in English (B2-C1) is essential for clear communication and collaboration. The candidate should be proactive, adaptable, and passionate about ICT, with the ability to facilitate discussions, organize activities, and provide meaningful support.
