Education for the Future: Promoting emotional and social development in Southern Lima – PUENTES Project, Volunteer 1

ASPEm

BRIGADA DE VOLUNTARIOS BOLIVARIANOS DEL PERU

LIMA, Peru

Description

The volunteer sent by ASPEm as part of the PUENTES project will collaborate in the BVBP’s “Education for the Future” program, working in institutions in the southern area of Lima such as Santa María Reyna, Los Jardines de Manchay, IE San José and La Nueva Semilla. Activities involve supporting holistic education through playful, artistic and recreational workshops. Tasks include preparing materials and organizing cultural events. The volunteer will also contribute to workshops on gender equality, violence prevention and environmental awareness, aimed at fostering students’ socio-emotional development. They will act as support in school activities under the supervision of local staff, while learning educational methodologies. The commitment is 30–40 hours per week (Monday to Friday), with time off in lieu for weekend work. From October to December activities take place in schools; from January to March activities are extracurricular; from March onward regular school activities resume.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Punta Negra, where activities take place, is a safe and quiet coastal district in southern Lima, with easy access to project schools (30–45 minutes by public minibuses). Nearby beach areas offer restaurants (including vegetarian options), markets, supermarkets and shops. The seafront accommodation includes single rooms with private bathrooms, hot water, a washing machine and basic services (water, electricity, gas, Wi-Fi). It also features a fully equipped kitchen. Local cuisine is based on rice, legumes, chicken, fish, tubers and potatoes; markets offer abundant fresh fruits and vegetables.

Training during the activity

A pre-departure training with ASPEm (in Italy or Spain) is provided. Upon arrival, a BVBP induction covers local context, culture, community norms, safety, health and risk management. The program includes workshops on playful methodologies, socio-emotional development, gender equality, violence prevention and environmental awareness, with simulations and school visits. Regular meetings connect local and international volunteers with educational teams to share learning. It builds skills in autonomy, time management, intercultural awareness and teamwork. Competencies certified through Youthpass.
