Discover Nature conservation Meinweg 1
STICHTING INTERNATIONALE WERKKAMPEN
Wegberg, Germany
Description
National Park De Meinweg is a nature area of about 1,800 hectares in Limburg, the Netherlands, uniquely surrounded by Germany on three sides. Its name comes from an old Celtic word meaning "common land," reflecting its history of shared use by Dutch and German villages. The park features a rare terraced landscape formed by ancient earth movements, making it a unique location to work with nature and learn about conservation. During the project, volunteers work as forest rangers in the park, helping to protect its open landscapes and heathland. These areas need regular care so plants and animals can thrive. Tasks include removing unwanted plants by hand, careful work that cannot be done by machines. Volunteers will also help restore a small site hut and support basic animal care. All tasks are done together as a team, guided by professionals.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The accommodation is located in Wehberg, Germany. You will stay in a stone building nestled in the woods, with an additional wooden building for sleeping. The sleeping area is an open room; a divider will be provided for m/f privacy. Airbeds are available, but bring your own sleeping bag and pillow. There is 1 indoor shower plus 2 outdoor hot-water showers. A fully equipped kitchen with washing machine is available. Volunteers cook and clean together. A separate building is available for indoor activities, plus plenty of outdoor space with BBQ facilities.
