Education in Action
Expression o.z.
Spišská Belá, Slovakia
Description
We are looking for volunteers who are interested in non-formal education and enjoy working with children and teenagers. You'll be involved in everyday activities at our two youth centres, Face Club and Pôjd, helping create a space where young people feel comfortable, curious and supported. If interested, part of the work may also involve cooperation with local schools and kindergartens. A big bonus is if you're into languages, English in particular. Many kids aren't used to speaking English and feel a bit nervous about it, so having someone patient and encouraging around makes a real difference. Curiosity about Slovak language is welcome too. Except this, there's always the everyday side of things - preparing the space, getting materials ready, cleaning, helping plan activities. Film evenings, summer camps and more. We take part in local cultural events as well. Volunteers are welcomed from six months to a whole year. Our infopack: https://acesse.one/infopack-faceclub-slovakia
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
You'll have your own room in a shared flat with fully equipped kitchen, wifi, and a bike available for getting around. Face Club is just five minutes by foot and Tesco opposite from your accommodation. Every month you receive pocket money plus a food allowance. We'll help you sort out transport to Slovakia before you arrive. Spišská Belá sits at the foot of the High Tatras, one of the most iconic regions in Slovakia. From here you can easily travel around, go for a weekend trip to Poland, visit Prague, Budapest, Vienna and much more or discover our beautiful mountains.
Training during the activity
You'll attend on-arrival and mid-term trainings organised by the Slovak National Agency and receive a Youthpass certificate, an officially recognised record of your learning and competences. Slovak lessons will help you settle in. You'll gain real, hands-on experience working with children and young people. And regular meetings with a coach and mentor will support you in developing a personal project of your own choosing.
Participant profile
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with kids and young people and cares about creating better education. You're open-minded, enthusiastic, creative and want to grow personally and professionally. You're responsible and comfortable both on your own and as part of a team. Experience with youth work is a plus, but not a must. More important is that you're patient, empathetic and curious. An interest in languages is an advantage here. Good English is needed for everyday communication.
