Love kids? The Municipality of Padua is looking for one motivated volunteer interested in the social and educational field. The volunteer will design and lead activities with young children (such as linguistic and cultural workshops using creativity, art, music and non-formal education methods) in English and/or Italian, promote intercultural education and support staff in kindergartens and pre-primary schools (reading stories to the children, helping staff manage conflicts, providing emotional support, reminding children of important rules for their safety, putting them to sleep, and other tasks that require clear communication, understanding and bonding). The volunteer will also have the chance to participate in events for the promotion of EU funded mobility programs and develop a personal project based on his/her interests.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteer will be hosted in a flat rented by the Municipality of Padova and located in the city of Padova (approx 3,5 km from city centre - 20 mins tram ride), to be shared with other ESC volunteers. The flat has 4 singles and common spaces (1 kitchen, 2 bathrooms, small balcony). Wifi included. Volunteers will receive a public transport pass (urban fare) and a second-hand bike. Pocket money and food allowance will be transferred to the bank account of the volunteers monthly.
Training during the activity
Volunteers will participate in the training organised by the National Agency. The supporting/sending organisation will take care of the pre-departure training and the final evaluation of the experience. Mentoring sessions and training will be provided by Progetto Giovani to train and support the volunteer during the project and for the completion of the Youthpass. Italian language learning will be provided through the OLS platform and informal conversation classes at the office. Volunteers will be asked to complete an online Italian test before they arrive.
Participant profile
The ideal candidate is a responsible and empathetic volunteer willing to work with preschoolers. Experience with young children (volunteering, internships) or studies related to early childhood is advisable. Some knowledge of Italian is necessary to properly work with younger children. English language skills are also required to lead activities. Interests in arts, music, theatre, dance, sports or other activities that can be engaging for children is a plus. Please note - working with young children can be physically and emotionally challenging - the role requires availability to move around the city and reach different schools.
