AHH: Community Empowerment in Togo

ASOCIACION AMIGOS DE EUROPA

Hälsa International Togo

Lomé, Togo

Description

Volunteers will support the local team by working directly with street children and vulnerable girls in Togo, contributing to activities that support ongoing social programs. Working alongside trained staff, they will take part in awareness activities and provide basic educational support for children. Volunteers will help prepare materials for workshops, support peer educators during community outreach, and participate in actions related to social justice, health, hygiene, and sexual and reproductive health. They will also assist in creating simple advocacy materials and engage in community activities. All activities take place in a safe and supportive environment, with volunteers working in teams and receiving guidance in their daily tasks. Their contribution will strengthen local capacity, support ongoing initiatives, and contribute to long-term efforts to improve the well-being of vulnerable children and youth.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers will stay in a guesthouse. They will have a single room with access to electricity, drinking water, and internet. Internet bills will be their responsibility. The organization will provide all groceries, and volunteers will prepare their own meals. Colorful markets, local food (such as foufou, ayimolou; rice with peanut sauce, akoumé, and gari), traditional clothing, and African rhythms are an integral part of Togolese life.

Training during the activity

Volunteers will receive induction training on local culture, working methods, and basic Ewe language. They will be introduced to local authorities and the EU representation in Togo. Quarterly evaluation workshops will assess their progress. Continuous support will be provided by the project manager, including guidance on cultural adaptation and community integration. Peer learning sessions and capacity-building activities with local staff are also part of the training process.

Participant profile

We are looking for motivated and compassionate volunteers aged 18-35, with a strong sense of responsibility, openness to different cultures, and a willingness to work with vulnerable children and young girls. Some basic knowledge of French is preferred, as it will ease communication. Ideal candidates should be adaptable, empathetic, and capable of working in diverse teams. Experience in education, social work, or working with children is an asset. A commitment to social justice, equality, and human rights is highly valued.
