Description

„HeldInnen Raum“ is a children and youth center looking for one female volunteer. The center offers children aged 6–13 from different social and cultural backgrounds to spend meaningful free time together: They can participate in creative, recreational activities and are supported in developing their individual skills.
During the ESC project, the volunteer will gain insight into different aspects of children/youth work. She will support the team in everyday tasks, participate in team meetings and professional trainings. Typical tasks may include: supporting arts and crafts activities, playing games with children, assisting during creative workshops and leisure activities, preparing snacks and tea, doing grocery shopping, helping with organizational and practical tasks in the center.
Depending on her interests the volunteer may also contribute her own ideas and small projects, for example in the fields of arts and crafts, music, re-/upcycling, nature or environmental awareness.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation: The volunteer will live in a host family.
Money for food: It will be provided monthly (11,50 € per day).
Pocket money: It will be provided monthly (7,00€ per day).
Local Transport: The volunteer will receive a monthly ticket for public transportation.

Training during the activity

Before the start of the project, the volunteer will receive preparation and support. During her stay in Germany, she will participate in mandatory ESC seminars and training courses. A language class is also possible. At the center, the volunteer will be supported by a mentor. In addition, a staff member from VJF will assist her with administrative matters and provide support in case of any difficulties.

Participant profile

To ensure good communication, the volunteer should have basic German and/or good English skills. Previous experience working with children is recommended, but not required. The team is looking for a motivated, friendly and open-minded volunteer. The volunteer should enjoy teamwork while also being able to work independently. Reliability, communication skills, curiosity and a sense of humor are important qualities for this role.
