CHILL - Support a Medieval festival
Associazione Basilicata Link APS
Miglionico, Italy
Description
CHILL stands for Community Hub, Living Labs in Inland and is a project that connects Basilicata Link (in the role as coordinator) with the National Network RIFAI which promotes the activation of rural towns with cultural and social activities. This project sees the hosting of a group of 7 foreigners and 3 local volunteers, supporting the historical reenactment of the “Conspiracy of the Barons”, the most important cultural event in the town of Miglionico, located in the province of Matera. The event takes place 12, 13 and 14 August and commemorates a historical episode that happened in 1485 during the Kingdom of Naples. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The Multifunctional Center of Miglionico is a community space to support social, cultural, and educational activities for local citizens and visitors. It is the first time hosting guests in this space, for this reason we dedicate two rooms with bunk beds, with access to showers and toilets to the sport hall. There is no wifi access. Furthermore there will be a breakfast corner with a fridge and a microwave. Volunteers will receive 6€ of pocket money plus food money to manage independently in the town for lunch and dinners. More information will follow after selection.
Training during the activity
Volunteers will see from inside on how life in a rural town is organized, and how a big event such as the "Conspiracy of the Barons" can bring visibility to a town, bring visitors and make people love more small places.
Participant profile
The ideal volunteer is someone who enjoys taking initiative and feels comfortable moving between different rhythms: the lively, collective energy of festival days and the quiet of rural town. They should appreciate both mental and manual work, from helping with logistics to painting festival structures, setting up spaces or supporting outdoor activities. Curiosity for culture is essential, as the project treats culture not as decoration but as a real tool for community transformation. Italian language skills are appreciated, English has to be good. Volunteers should be ready to live in a small village surrounded by nature, unbothered by insects, silence or slow days, and able to enjoy simple pleasures like reading in the sun, walking through the woods or sharing an improvised picnic by the river.
