Behind the scenes of an international organization in Berlin: Help Manage Volunteer Programs at ICJA

ICJA - FREIWILLIGENAUSTAUSCH WELTWEIT EV

BERLIN, Germany

Description

ICJA is a non-profit organisation that sends German volunteers abroad and hosts international volunteers in Germany for one year. ICJA understands its exchange program as an educational opportunity. Central to ICJA’s concept are contact, cooperation and a fruitful exchange between volunteers coming from all over the world. There are around 35 people working in the office in Berlin. The main task of the volunteer will be assisting within the ESC sending department and Humanitarian Aid like e.g. General administration and research work, Communication with participants, assisting in the application process, conducting online workshops/seminars, translating of texts (English/German), social media work, responds to applicants' questions or concerns. Please be aware that the tasks are mostly administrative (90%) and less pedagogical (10%) as well as it’s office work.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will receive food fee (345 Euro/month), pocket money (7€ per day) and travel money (Deutschland Ticket). The volunteer will receive a financial support to the travel costs from their place of origin to Germany and back, the amount depends on the distance travelled. They will also receive health insurance. Because of the housing shortage in Berlin, it is very difficult for us to find a room for the volunteer. For this reason, it is very important that you are flexible about the accommodation: The volunteer is going to live in a shared flat.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will take part in the mandatory ESC trainings (On Arrival and Mid Term Training).

Participant profile

The volunteer should have very good German skills (B2/C1) and good English (B2–C1), as well as an interest in administrative work and intercultural or global learning topics. Openness, motivation, initiative, and the ability to work both independently and in a team are important. Applicants should be willing to take responsibility, contribute their own skills and interests, and actively participate in activities such as seminars. Basic knowledge of Office programmes (especially Outlook, Word, and Excel) and an interest in international youth exchange and volunteering are also expected.
