Invento Ruralis — European Art Volunteers Residency
Associazione Costiera Amalfitana Riserva Biosfera
Buccino, Italy
Description
For this project in Buccino and San Gregorio Magno, Salerno, Italy, we are looking for 8 participants aged 18–30.
Buccino is a historic rural town of around 3,000 inhabitants, built upon the ancient Roman city of Volcei. Invento Ruralis transforms the ESC Team into a European artistic volunteering residency for young people interested in art, crafts and performing practices.
Volunteers will become part of a temporary artistic community, using art as a tool for community activation, cultural participation and local regeneration.
They will work from the encounter with natural landscapes, local memories, artisanal knowledge, traditions, rural spaces and local materials.
From 16 to 25 August, they will be joined by 8 artists from Southern Italy and the Apennines, creating artistic tandems for shared workshops, performances and installations during Baccanalia 2026.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Participants will be hosted in Casa Mòvesi, in the historic centre of Buccino, in shared dormitories with common living spaces, bathrooms, garden and a fully equipped kitchen.
Volunteers will manage meals independently and receive pocket money according to ESC rules.
A welcome food supply with basic products will be provided at arrival.
During the Baccanalia evenings, from 18 to 23 August, food will be covered by the organisation.
Buccino is connected by train and buses to Salerno and Naples. Mòvesi will provide transport for activities, visits and transfers to San Gregorio Magno.
Training during the activity
Volunteers will receive non-formal and informal training through artistic workshops, practical activities, community work and experiential learning.
Francesco Verderese will support activities related to crafts, permaculture, rural practices and community life.
From 16 to 25 August, artists will join the residency, creating mixed working groups to develop public workshops, installations and performances.
Jessica Vitulano will coordinate the artistic and training process, supporting the group in exploring popular music, traditional dance, body practices, social theatre, visual expression.
