Description
We are looking for one exceptional volunteer to complete our team of 6 for a life changing experience. The project will take place in Point Blanche the prison of Sint Maarten (Dutch side) and MLC Juvenille centre here we will have equal number of detainees and international volunteers working on the creation, illustration and photography for a book we will create together - Beneath the Cover - where inmates from the wider prison population will have the chance to tell their story - either their past life or the future vision or maybe both. You will work along a group of amazing men who are open to changing the trajectory of their lives. We expect you to give alot but to gain even more. It is unlikely that this experience will not effect you for the rest of your life. To work on this project with these men is a priveledge, hence our search for a special volunteer. Please apply if you have skills in creative writing, poetry or spoken word and leading groups in this field.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
You will stay in accommodation in a shared room - please tell us at application stage if you do not wish to share with a different sex volunteer. You will be collected each day and driven to work Meals at the prison with the detainees and have money for weekend and other meals Please be aware the project is in Sint Maarten not Aruba delivered in partnership with Sint Maarten Development Fund & co-financed by United Office of Drugs and Crime. Training during the activity
You will have training around the Nelson Mandela rules & have an on-arrival training on arrival to Sint Maarten You will be supported by United Nation Office of Drugs and Crime, point Blanche Prison, MLC centre and Tur Cos Ta Posibel. There will be training throughout the activity, you will be training other volunteers to support the work with the wider prison population.
