Promoting peace and interculturality with the Guinguette de la paix
SERVICE CIVIL INTERNATIONAL BRANCHE FRANCAISE
LILLE, France
Description
Created in 1920, Service Civil International (SCI) aims to promote peace, rapprochement between peoples, sustainable development and social justice. It does this by organising international solidarity projects that bring together volunteers from different cultural and social backgrounds. The SCI movement is made up of 43 branches and some forty partners around the world. The volunteer workcamp is SCI's main tool for learning about tolerance and mutual respect. La Guinguette de la Paix is a third place for collaboration among associations that is currently under development, featuring an activity room and a professional kitchen. Once a month, the SCI organizes a community meal there with local organizations and residents. Throughout the month, it also hosts activities and events organized by other associations in Lille.
