Description

YMCA Dublin is currently recruiting a full-time youth and community services volunteer to join our team. The position is funded by Leargas, under the European Solidarity Corps programme. YMCA Dublin is committed to empowering young people and strengthening the communities they live in. We provide inclusive, welcoming spaces where children, young people, families, and community members can connect, grow, and thrive together. As a Youth & Community Volunteer, you will contribute to building positive relationships and fostering a strong sense of belonging within the community. Volunteers support a wide range of activities including youth clubs, community drop-ins, summer projects, study clubs, training workshops, peer support group and junior leadership initiatives. Hours: This is a full time post of 37.5 hours. Evening hours. Occasionally weekend work will required. The volunteer will be eligible to take 20 days (pro rata) of annual leave in agreement with their supervisor.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

This is a voluntary position funded by the European Solidarity Corp. The volunteer will receive an allowance of €400 every two weeks, which includes daily pocket money of €11, plus an additional food and travel allowance. Accommodation will be provided by YMCA Dublin, with rent and utilities fully covered. All approved international travel costs will also be reimbursed.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will receive training for their position from the YMCA Dublin. They will also receive residential training from Leargas to support the volunteering experience. This training typically takes place in Dublin and includes volunteers from around Europe. All expenses for the training are covered. The volunteer will receive regular support and supervision sessions with their supervisor and will also be appointed a mentor.

Participant profile

To be eligible for this opportunity, candidates must meet the following criteria: Be aged between 18 and 30 years old. Have good communication skills in English. Demonstrate a strong interest in working with children and young people. Be motivated by the principles of the European Solidarity Corps, including a commitment to social inclusion, solidarity with marginalised communities, and a desire to help build a shared European identity. Have not previously participated in a European Solidarity Corps project. Be reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently. Possess strong teamwork and interpersonal skills. Have good IT skills, with a solid working knowledge of Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.) an advantage. Be willing and able to commit to the full duration of the project. Skills in any of the following areas are an asset: arts and crafts, sports and exercise, music, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics), or cooking.
