Description
The Gustav Stresemann Institute (GSI) is a private, non-denominational, politically independent adult education center. Every year, the institute offers more than 200 seminars, some in cooperation with other institutions. Seven full-time instructors and over 100 guest lecturers ensure that guests receive expert and pedagogically experienced guidance. The goal of this educational institution is to strengthen a sense of political and social responsibility, to think beyond the nation-state, and to promote European unity and international cooperation. Through adult education, it aims to continue providing impetus for social thought and action. It seeks to encourage critical engagement with the issues of our time and offers relevant seminars on political education. In this work, the aim is to reach as many social groups as possible. As an independent educational institution, it is not bound to any religious, political party, or or other ideological organization.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will be accommodated in a shared flat, their own flat or with a host family. The project location is accessible by public transport or by bike from the accommodation They get a single room and eventually share kitchen and bathroom with other people. Pocket money is 210€ per month plus proportionally food allowance. Breakfast and lunch are served at the GSI. The area is beautiful and rural. Next bigger towns are Lüneburg and Hamburg. The volunteers receive a "Deutschlandticket" to use local public transport in the area and all around Germany.
Training during the activity
The volunteer will receive at least one German language course. Additionally they will get an online language course via the ESC system. The volunteer has the possibility to take part in team meetings and will also have regular meetings with the tutor. Furthermore, seminars and workshops organised by the German National Agency, and the coordinating organisation VIA e.V. provides space for learning and sharing. The volunteers reiceive a Youthpass-certificate at the end of their volunteering.
Participant profile
Your motivation is the most important selection criteria! Other criteria are: • good knowledge of English • German language skills would be appreciated • communicative and open-minded • motivation and interest in the field of political education • knowledge or experience in the field of political education or organising seminars is desired, but not mandatory The volunteers accompany the educational institution in their daily work. Typical tasks of the volunteers can be: • Assisting with the planning, organization, and implementation of seminars and workshops, • Supporting international encounters and exchange programs, • Developing and implementing a small project or educational format of their own, • Contributing to public relations and social media with a European perspective, • Participating in documentation, evaluation, and reflection processes, • Gaining insights into the organization of a conference and educational center.
