ARSIS KOINONIKI ORGANOSI YPOSTIRIXIS NEON

Thessaloniki, Greece

Description

The Building Together program offers volunteers a unique opportunity to actively participate in supporting unaccompanied minors living in semi-autonomous living apartments, within the framework of a relevant certified program of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum. The activities combine non-formal education, experiential workshops, cooking workshops and mentoring, with the aim of developing individual and social skills, boosting self-confidence, and integrating children into social life. Volunteers will actively participate in organizing English lessons tailored to the needs of the beneficiaries, helping children develop language skills and self-confidence. At the same time, they will organize experiential non-formal education workshops that promote the development of individual and social skills, artistic expression, and personal development, as well as other creative leisure activities such as educational and social activities aimed at connecting children with the local community.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

For volunteers coming from outside Thessaloniki, accommodation is provided in a fully equipped apartment with roommates, located close to public transport. In addition, regardless of their area of origin, volunteers will receive monthly financial support of €210 as pocket money, €150 for food, and a monthly unlimited travel card for Thessaloniki's public transport (buses and metro). The program is implemented at the Supported Independent Living Center for Unaccompanied Minors (SIL) in Thessaloniki and has a minimum duration of 45 days with 30 hours of weekly volunteering.

Training during the activity

Volunteers are trained in non-formal education tools and methodologies, acquiring intercultural understanding skills and approaches for effective youth guidance. At the same time, they receive training in strategies that promote autonomy and social inclusion. More specifically, they will receive information and training on: A. the national reception and care system for unaccompanied minors. B. mentoring methodology and the organization of activities to familiarize minors with the cultural environment and encourage their participation in social life.
