The Joyce'ful Kitchen We Dream Of (September, team volunteering)
Joyce 'n' Fun Kinoniki Syneteristiki Epihirisi
Skiathos, Greece
Description
This September, we are inviting a team of volunteers to join us at Joy'ce Kingdom for one month of natural building, as we create The Joyce'ful Kitchen We Dream Of, an indoor kitchen and eating area built with our own hands, from earth, wood and care.
Off-grid and solar-powered, Joy'ce Kingdom has grown over the last few years into a home for learning, community and simple living, but until now, we have had no indoor gathering space. This kitchen will change that. Alongside cooking and eating, it will hold our books and boardgames, and become the place for rainy days, quiet evenings and the occasional movie night.
Volunteers will learn natural building techniques from experienced hands, working alongside our team and community members. No previous experience is needed, only willingness, curiosity and a readiness to get your hands in the earth.
Accommodation is shared tent living, with food included, in the spirit of Joyce 'n' Fun. Come help us build the heart of Joy'ce Kingdom.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Accommodation is in tents provided by Joyce 'n' Fun, close to nature and the sea, with meals included and shared daily.
A new bus stop has just opened next to our place, though we don't yet know how frequent buses will be in September. Volunteers with a 125cc licence can use our scooter, and hitch hiking is common and easy here.
For arrival and departure, we will personally arrange transportation from the port or airport, so just share your travel details once confirmed.
We want your time here to feel easy from the moment you land, so if anything is unclear, just ask.
Training during the activity
We begin with community building, taking time to connect, settle in and get to know each other before any tools come out.
A natural building specialist then joins us for a full week, guiding the practical skills behind the kitchen build, from earth and wood techniques to hands-on construction.
For the rest of the month, further trainers will lead sessions on diverse subjects, and just as importantly, we'll be learning from each other, sharing skills, stories and everyday life together at Joy'ce Kingdom.
Participant profile
We are looking for volunteers who are curious, open-hearted and ready to get their hands dirty. No previous building experience is needed, only willingness to learn and a positive attitude toward teamwork.
Life at Joy'ce Kingdom is simple and off-grid, tents nestled among trees, cicadas singing through the day, and small critters running about, so comfort with basic living conditions and outdoor life matters more than any specific skill.
If you're drawn to natural building, sustainable living or simply want to be part of something real, this project is for you.
