FUNDACION ALBOAN
ASOCIACION DE SERVICIOS EDUCATIVOS Y CULTURALES
CIUDAD DE GUATEMALA, Guatemala
Description
We are looking for a motivated and dedicated volunteer who is interested in education, social inclusion, and community development to join an educational project in Guatemala with ASEC-IGER. The volunteer will be part of the Obra Semilla IGER program, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to support educational initiatives for young people and adults who have not had the chance to complete their formal education. This role will involve contributing to educational activities in Guatemala City and in both urban and rural communities across the country. The aim is to promote equal access to learning opportunities and strengthen local development. This volunteering experience offers the chance to develop professional, personal, and intercultural skills while gaining practical experience in community-based education. The volunteer will enhance their abilities in leadership, teamwork, communication, project support, and adaptation to diverse cultural contexts. Additionally, they will gain a deeper understanding of Guatemala's rich cultural heritage and social realities.
The volunteer will contribute to the development and implementation of educational initiatives through the following responsibilities:
- Support the planning, coordination, and organisation of educational projects and community-based activities.
- Collaborate with regional and sectoral teams that provide direct support to students and educational facilitators.
- Participate in field visits to local communities to gain insights into educational realities and identify community needs.
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of workshops, meetings, and training activities.
- Help manage, organise, and distribute educational materials and resources for study groups.
- Collect, organise, and systematise information to support the improvement and development of educational programs.
- Take part in monitoring and evaluation processes aimed at enhancing project outcomes and impact.
- Contribute to initiatives that promote social inclusion, community resilience, active participation, and local development.
- Share ideas, knowledge, and experiences with international volunteers and the local team to foster intercultural learning and collaboration.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
At the beginning of the project, the volunteer will be accommodated in Guatemala City, in an apartment located in front of the organisation’s headquarters. The accommodation includes a private room, access to a shared kitchen and common areas, and essential utilities such as water, electricity, and gas.
After the initial period, the volunteer will relocate to a community in the interior of the country, where they will spend the majority of their volunteering experience carrying out educational activities and supporting local initiatives. Accommodation in these communities will be provided in safe and suitable conditions, with the necessary support to ensure the volunteer’s well-being and successful integration into the local environment.
Transportation required for project-related activities will generally be provided through institutional vehicles.
Training during the activity
The volunteer will receive comprehensive pre-departure training from Alboan, the sending organisation, in Europe before the start of the placement.
Upon arrival in Guatemala, they will participate in an induction programme introducing ASEC’s mission, values, Development approach, and institutional strategy.
Various training and capacity-building opportunities are offered by the organisation
