Description
If you feel shivers from corporate lifestyle but get excited by the vibe of free art, culture and activism this is it! We are one team running two independent cultural centers Stanica Žilina Záriečie and Nová synagóga in small city Žilina, Slovakia and we seek 3 ESC volunteers for a 1-year-long experience.
Nowadays, independent culture in Slovakia faces pressure and attempts at censorship and defunding. But we stand for freedom of expression, want to stay an open and safe community for everyone, and we aim to keep the most vibrant program possible. With around 300 events and several festivals a year, we believe you won’t be bored. Volunteering with us should not be just a line in your resume, but a chance to become part of a community that changes things around for the better.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The offer includes:
- Accommodation: Own room in a city-center house shared with other volunteers (usually 4 volunteers per project).
- Allowance: You will receive 400 Euros (pocket money + food money).
- Travel: We fully refund your travel expenses after arrival and also before departure back home.
- Location: Žilina is a small city surrounded by beautiful nature with good transport connections to places like Bratislava, Prague, Vienna, etc.
Training during the activity
Through your stay you´ll be guided by wide range of poffesionals from the field (sound/light designers, project managers, event coordinators atc.). You will increase your knowledge of cultural management, the cultural sector (slovakian and international), help with creative projects and event organization. You will gain practical experience and new skills in one of chosen areas (tech, PR, event management) that could later benefit you when finding a job. We are not a state organized facility. We are NGO and that comes with freedom of choice in what projects/program we do and how we do them.
Participant profile
We look for:
- 1x Tech Support member: You will help our tech team prepare concerts, performances, and exhibitions (light, sound design, stage building atc).
- 2x Photo / Video or Social Media and Graphic Design: We are looking for people with an eye for photography, video, and graphic design that will join our PR team and make our activities more visible online and offline. Side quest: Our TikTok has been in a zombie mode for way too long and needs to be brought back to life! Would you dare to try?
We expect:
- English language knowledge at a good communication level (minimum B1, since we have an international team).
- An art and culture lover who enjoys attending such events.
- Creativity and the ability to improvise.
- An independent and responsible approach.
- Flexibility (our work is not 9 to 5, but according to the monthly program, often during afternoons and evenings).
- An active and initiative personality (you like to learn, explore, create, and develop your own ideas).
- Resistance to stress :) (sometimes there is too much work, sometimes too much freedom, and balancing it is a virtue we try to master all the time).
