The power of together

Connect, Contribute, Grow

Bildungsnetzwerk Magdeburg gGmbH

Magdeburg, Germany

Description

Join an ESC team of up to 15 international volunteers and become part of the everyday life of the European Youth Education Centre Magdeburg (EJBM). This project gives you the opportunity to explore different areas of our work and gain practical experience through a variety of tasks. As part of your experience you will be able to get insights and contribute to all areas of our work: support the kitchen and meal preparation, help with service and hospitality, assist with reception and administrative tasks, or contribute to educational activities and programmes for young people. You will work closely with the EJBM team and meet young people and youth workers from Germany and across Europe. In December, volunteers will also help with local Christmas markets and activities at the multigenerational house. The variety of tasks allows you to discover your strengths, learn new skills; develop communication, teamwork, organisational and intercultural competences in an international environment.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers will be accommodated in shared rooms with own bathroom for up to four people (towels and sheets are provided) at our facility. Additionally, there is a common room with a small kitchen available. Food and accommodation are fully covered. Volunteers will be provided with 3 meals a day (one warm one) prepared by our kitchen staff, according to the German youth hostel standard. Any dietary restrictions will be taken into account. Pocket money of 7 € per day will be provided. Travel expenses will be reimbursed based on the traveling distance according to the Erasmus+ rates.

Training during the activity

In the first days after arrival you will receive all the relevant information about the project and your role in it. We will take care of team-building and preparing you for all the tasks. Before starting in any role, an introduction from the staff member will be provided. Throughout your stay, the EJBM team will be there to explain the tasks and responsibilities, as well as available to answer any questions that may arise and guide the volunteers throughout the way. During their stay, the volunteers are expected to work independently and support each other in executing the assigned tasks.

Participant profile

We are looking for volunteers who are open-minded, motivated and willing to take on a variety of tasks. Reliability, flexibility and a hands-on attitude are important, as some activities involve practical and physical work, such as supporting the kitchen, meal preparation, service or setting up spaces and materials. We are looking for people who show their own initiative and have a strong sense of responsibility. At the same time, the project also includes educational and social activities, where volunteers may interact with children and young people. For us, it is important that you align with the European values.

Volunteers are expected to be able to understand and communicate freely in English, knowledge of German is welcomed.

We value a wide range of skills and qualities and would like to see participants who identify with the following: independence, creativity, dedication, eagerness, open-mindedness, curiosity, teamwork and problem-solving. The project is also a chance to discover personal strengths, build confidence and gain hands-on experience that can support future education, training or employment.
