Long-term Volunteering at a Scout Centre in Lithuania – Practical Work & Maintenance
Skautu slenis
Ukmergė, Lithuania
Description
Duration: 10–11 months | Starting asap
We're looking for a motivated volunteer who enjoys nature, practical work and outdoors.
You will join the everyday life of our scout campsite and take part in hands-on practical work, outdoor activities and youth work.
A big part of the experience will be working alongside our handyman and learning by doing. Tasks may include maintenance, painting, woodworking, repairing equipment, preparing outdoor spaces and even building a new storage building from scratch.
You will also help care for boats and outdoor equipment, prepare the campsite for different seasons, and support scout camps, youth activities, international projects and larger events.
You do not need to know everything in advance. What matters is curiosity, responsibility and willingness to learn, ask questions and try new things.
If you enjoy getting your hands dirty, learning by doing and seeing the results of your work, you will fit in well here.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will share a cosy living space in part of a house located close to the city centre, with a large yard outside to relax, spend time together or enjoy some fresh air. Bedrooms are shared with volunteers of the same sex, so it is important to be comfortable with communal living. A car will be available for commuting to the scout centre and activities. Each month, volunteers will also receive food money and pocket money directly into their bank account, giving them flexibility to manage their everyday expenses.
Training during the activity
Volunteers will take part in the On-Arrival and Mid-Term Trainings organised by the National Agency. Throughout the project, they will also receive practical training and guidance for their everyday tasks, so previous experience is not required. They will learn how to plan and implement international youth projects and will take part in youth leader training to prepare for summer camps, where they will gradually take more responsibility and work directly with children and young people.
Participant profile
This position is ideal for someone who wants to spend a year in nature, develop practical skills, work with young people and experience life in a Lithuanian scout centre.
We are looking for a motivated, open-minded and responsible young person who enjoys nature, practical work and being part of a team. Previous experience is not required, but willingness to learn, ask questions and take initiative is important. The volunteer should be comfortable with outdoor work, changing tasks and shared living. Interest in youth work, scouting, sailing, international projects or practical skills is a strong advantage. We especially welcome someone who is ready to challenge themselves, try new things and take an active role in the life of the scout centre.
