European Solidarity Corps

The power of together

VIVA — Volunteering for Inclusion, Voice and Action

Adamastor - Associação Cultural

Viseu, Portugal

Description

VIVA – Youth in Action in Viseu is a European Solidarity Corps project hosted by Adamastor in Viseu, Portugal. It brings together local and international volunteers to promote inclusion, strengthen youth participation, and support more sustainable communities.

Volunteers will collaborate with local young people and partner organisations on community initiatives, civic engagement, and environmental awareness. They will share ideas, take initiative, and help develop creative responses to local challenges.

Guided by the EU Youth Goals, VIVA particularly supports young people with fewer opportunities. Through volunteering, non-formal learning, and intercultural exchange, participants will develop teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills while contributing to positive change in Viseu and its surrounding communities.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers will stay at the Viseu Youth Hostel, providing a welcoming environment where they can connect with other participants. A food allowance will be provided at the beginning of each month, allowing volunteers to organise their own meals. Participants will also receive pocket money and a contribution towards return travel costs, in accordance with European Solidarity Corps funding rules. All practical arrangements will be explained before arrival.

Training during the activity

Volunteers will receive an introduction to Adamastor, their activities, Portuguese culture, and the European Solidarity Corps. Workshops will focus on inclusion, youth participation, sustainability, and community engagement. Regular mentoring and reflection sessions will support their wellbeing and personal development. Through Youthpass, volunteers will identify and document the skills and learning gained during their experience.

Participant profile

We are looking for young people aged 18 to 30 who are motivated to contribute to the community and learn through volunteering. No previous experience is required, just curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to learn.

Participants should be open-minded, adaptable, and interested in inclusion, youth participation, or environmental sustainability. They should enjoy teamwork, sharing ideas, and working in a multicultural environment.

VIVA particularly welcomes young people with fewer opportunities. Individual needs will be discussed during selection so that appropriate support can be planned.
