Participant profile
PARTICIPANT PROFILE
We are looking for volunteers aged 18–30 who are proactive, motivated and responsible, with a genuine interest in working in a social environment. Candidates should be flexible, team-oriented, creative, have good communication and practical skills, and demonstrate maturity when working with socially and economically disadvantaged communities.
A strong motivation to work with the target groups is essential. Interests or skills in music, dance, theatre, sports, cooking, computers, handicrafts, gardening, history, photography or other arts are an asset, as these can help volunteers engage with participants and develop meaningful activities.
We value volunteers who demonstrate a positive attitude, patience, empathy and good listening skills. We seek young people who are committed to volunteering and interested in the personal and professional development that the project offers, rather than choosing it solely as an opportunity to travel to Portugal.
Volunteers should also demonstrate the ability to integrate into a new environment and a willingness to share their experiences, culture and traditions while learning from others.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES AND INCLUSION
The coordinating and receiving organisations are committed to ensuring equal access to the European Solidarity Corps for all young people, regardless of ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation or political opinion.
When the project involves young people with fewer opportunities, appropriate arrangements are made to provide tailored preparation, support and follow-up, according to their individual needs.
SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process begins with an initial pre-selection based on practical requirements. Candidates are asked to submit their CV and motivation letter.
Applications are reviewed according to the candidate’s motivation to work with the target group, suitability for the chosen activities, commitment to volunteering and reasons for applying to the project.
Online interviews may be conducted to better understand candidates’ motivations, explain the project and the receiving organisation’s environment, clarify the volunteer’s role and present the practical and logistical conditions. These interviews also provide an opportunity for candidates to ask questions and clarify any doubts.
Following this process, the final selection decision is communicated to each candidate.
