It Takes a Village is a three-year Humanitarian Aid volunteering programme supporting rural communities through teamwork, solidarity, and local empowerment. Volunteers work with residents on key areas such as water, education, housing, environment, youth and women’s empowerment, helping improve daily life and strengthen resilience.

Year 3 starts this March in Vietnam, where 15 volunteers will spend 45 days supporting the community. Our approach is collaborative, working with the community rather than imposing solutions -shifting the journey from “me” to “we”.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation: The volunteers will stay in a traditional stilt-house in the village. The entire floor will be communal, the mattresses are situated on the floor divided by curtains for more privacy. Flushing toilets and showers are available.

Food: CSDS will take care of the cooking and food requirements. Normally food includes rice, dairy, eggs, vegetables and meat. Since it will be traditional Vietnamese food, there will also be vegetarian and vegan options.

Transport Arrangements: Volunteers will land in Hanoi. Travel to Thai Hai Village: Organized bus.

Training during the activity

On-Arrival Training:

  • Upon arrival in Vietnam, volunteers will receive an orientation on logistics, including visa paperwork, insurance and agreements.
  • A cultural briefing on Vietnam’s history, social dynamics and expected behavior.
  • Conflict resolution training to navigate cultural differences.
  • Environmental sustainability training, focusing on eco-friendly behaviors

Ongoing Training & Support Mentors:

  • Mentors accompany the team, ensuring safety and guiding learning experiences.
