The power of together

Regenerative Hospitality & Rural Living

Mundekulla Kurs Retreat Konferens AB

Långasjö, Sweden

Description

This project invites young people to learn about sustainability by living and working in a regenerative enterprise in rural Sweden. Mundekulla is an ecolodge and retreat center rooted in EU values of democracy, inclusion, and solidarity, where land care, hospitality, and community life are combined into one system.

The aim is to show how environmental, social, and economic sustainability work together in practice and to empower volunteers to learn by doing, take responsibility, and grow while contributing to society.

Volunteers will mainly focus on one or more of five learning areas: Regenerative Gardening & Biodiversity, Circular Gastronomy & Food Processing, Regenerative Hospitality & Guest Experience, Eco-building & Maintenance, and Sustainable Forestry, guided by professionals.

Through daily activities, volunteers develop sustainability and teamwork skills, and an understanding of responsible entrepreneurship while contributing to SDGs 4, 12, 13, and 15.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Participants are housed either in the on-site volunteer building or in a house in a nearby village, accessible by a 5-minute bike ride or a 15-minute walk; bicycle and helmet provided. Accommodation includes private bedrooms, shared kitchens, and shared bathrooms.

The closest train station is in Emmaboda, 12 km from Mundekulla. Participants may be able to use a company car to reach the train station, also for weekend trips or holidays.

Mundekulla serves vegetarian and vegan food. Meals will either be served in the restaurant or prepared by participants themselves.

Training during the activity

Learning is mainly hands-on, guided by experienced staff, with reflection, intercultural learning, Youthpass processes, and activities focused on self-leadership, communication, and community living. Activities and learning opportunities will depend on the season, ongoing projects, and volunteers' interests.

Participants receive:

  • On-the-job training in their main learning area
  • Independent mentoring for personal development
  • ESC on-arrival and mid-term training organised by MUCF
  • Language learning support (OLS)
  • Visits to other sustainable initiatives in the region
  • Cultural activities and excursions
Participant profile

We welcome young people aged 18-30 who are eligible for the European Solidarity Corps and interested in regenerative hospitality, gardening and biodiversity, vegetarian and vegan cooking, sustainable maintenance, or forestry.

We offer long-term volunteering placements and seek participants who can commit to the full agreed duration.

Candidates should be open to community living and teamwork with other volunteers (a group of approximately eight participants).

We welcome participants with fewer opportunities, including those facing educational, economic, social, cultural, or discrimination-related barriers. No formal qualifications are required — motivation and openness to learning are most important.
