Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft für Paritätische Sozialarbeit mbH

Wilhelmshaven, Germany

Description

English:

The Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft für Paritätische Sozialarbeit (GPS) offers a wide range of social services for children, young people and adults with disabilities in Northern Germany. Our goal is always to support and encourage people to live their lives as independently as possible. The “Schule an der Deichbrücke” is an educational institution for children with disabilities. Students complete their 12 years of compulsory education in small groups, which allows for individualized support of personal strengths and skills as well as a hands-on educational experience. The staff focuses on strengths rather than weaknesses to help students achieve their individual goals. You will assist the teaching staff in organizing lessons or implementing individualized support measures. You will help students get dressed, eat their meals, and support them as they develop new skills. Your responsibilities will include setting up the group room and preparing meals. You will be involved in organizing projects and will participate in field trips and school trips.

Deutsch:

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

English:

There will be a group of eight international volunteers who will spend a year at GPS and live in three shared apartments. A volunteer coordinator will show you how to spend your free time in and around Wilhelmshaven: cultural events, theaters, museums, the beach, or whatever else interests you. You’ll all receive a Deutschlandticket so you can explore nearby cities like Bremen or Hamburg—or other parts of Germany on your days off. When you arrive, we’ll let you know about nearby supermarkets and other important places.
