Volunteer wanted: Wohnverbund Soziale Psychatrie – Assisted living for people with disabilities

Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband Niedersachsen e.V.

Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft für Paritätische Sozialarbeit mbH

Wilhelmshaven, Germany

Description

English:

The Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft für Paritätische Sozialarbeit (GPS) offers a wide range of social services for children, young people and adults with disabilities in Northern Germany. Our goal is always to support and encourage people to live their lives as independently as possible. The guiding principle of the “Wohnverbund Soziale Psychatrie” is to give every person with mental health challenges the time they need to stabilize and develop a plan for the future. Staff members are always there to listen, offer advice, provide support, and encourage residents to take an active role, while also respecting the boundaries of each individual within the group. You’ll be working in a residential care setting—where clients receive intensive support in their daily lives. These groups consist of three to four residents who live in single rooms and share an apartment. You’ll assist the staff in organizing the daily routine or individual tasks and help residents acquire or maintain skills. You’ll encourage them to participate in activities, therapeutic programs, and events. You’ll also be involved in projects such as seasonal celebrations and take part in outings.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

English:

There will be a group of eight international volunteers who will spend a year at GPS and live in three shared apartments. A volunteer coordinator will show you how to spend your free time in and around Wilhelmshaven: cultural events, theaters, museums, the beach, or whatever else interests you. You’ll all receive a Deutschlandticket so you can explore nearby cities like Bremen or Hamburg—or other parts of Germany on your days off. When you arrive, we’ll let you know about nearby supermarkets and other important places.
