Activity description

Kaprálův mlýn is a scout environmental education centre situated in Moravian karst landscape protected area. Volunteering at Kaprálův mlýn consists of various activities: - assisting with the environmental education programmes (outdoor ecology for highschool students, outdoor activities, forest kindergarden), - helping with the operation of the centre (guest-care, cleaning, kitchen, info-shop duties), - working outside (looking after the garden, nature conservation work, preparing wood for winter, cutting the grass), - education (czech lessons, workshops, NGO, environmental projects, conservation), - your own personal project.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation Volunteers live in a two-storey straw house (equipped kitchen, common room, bedrooms) situated on a nice place just 50 m from the main bulding of Kapraluv mlyn. Food Because meals for the guests are being prepared we can provide home-made cuisine three times a day for volunteers as well, respecting individual diets; volunteers can also cook on their own in the kitchen in their house. Transport Volunteers get ticket for public transport, Brno downtown is accesible within 30 minutes. There are bikes which volunteers can use as well.

Training during the activity

On-arrival and Midterm training organized by National Agency. Czech language lessons. Introductory training in the organisation (health and safety, programmes, building maintanance, office skills, surrounding...) Special workshops - depends on volunteers´ interests (Heritage interpretation, Grant applications, Corel Draw, GIS and GPS, Zoner, First aid, Environmental ethics, Natural resources, Eco-friendly housing...).

Participant profile

In accordance with the mission of Kapraluv mlyn Scout Environmental Education Centre we prefer volunteers who are interested in nature conservation, environmental education, sustainable technologies and leisure time activities for kids and youth. We consider the EVS project as a way to share our knowledge. That is why open-mindness, willingness to learn new things and discipline are the qualities we are asking for. The project is approved and we accept volunteers only from Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.
