Short term ESC in Youth Centre De Takel combined with Youth for Youths

Activity description

This project is for international volunteers who want to experience youth work in a different context and country. The service consists of 2 months and 2 weeks of volunteering in the Flemish Don Bosco youth center, De Takel in Oostende at the seaside. De Takel is a youth center for young people between 12 and 25 years. It is a place where they can come together for all kinds of activities and socializing. The target group for De Takel consists mainly of: young people from disadvantaged neighborhoods of Oostende, refugees, minors… Your tasks: - accompany the youngsters in the activities and their visit to the youth center - organize activities together with the team Your profile: - 20 to 30 years old (we don't accept volunteers younger than that due to the age of the target group) - Experience in youth work - Active knowledge of English - Interest in sports or other activities you can offer to De Takel More information: https://www.instagram.com/jeugdhuisdetakel/

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

During the service, the volunteers will have their personal room in a shared house with other volunteers. There are max. 4 people living in the house. All basic needs are provided: kitchen, bathroom, tv, internet…. The rent is included in the Erasmus+ grant and will be paid by Jeugddienst Don Bosco. Cooking will be done by the volunteers. The volunteers will receive a weekly budget to cover food and household costs. The weekends from 05/07 till 21/07, you will spend together with other international volunteers in different cities. Those costs are also covered.

Training during the activity

This project is our Youth for Youths (Y4Y) project combined with a Shortterm, both in Jeugdhuis De Takel. The Youth for Youths-project is from 05/07 till 21/07. During this period you spend the weekends together with other international volunteers. The weekends you follow a program together with them which include reflections, exchanges, games and exploring different Belgian cities. During the week you help in Jeugdhuis De Takel. After 21/07 you follow the activities and programm from De Takel, also during the weekends.

Participant profile

This project is our Youth for Youths (Y4Y) project combined with a Shortterm, both in Jeugdhuis De Takel. You as volunteer are/have: - 20+ years old - strong English communication skills - strong youth work skills/experience - able to live/work independent - interest in sports or other activities you can offer to Youthcenter De Takel - intercultural skills - open towards other cultures/to have an intercultural experience - have a pro-active attitude - have no difficulties with working on evenings and in weekends
