Activity description

The purpose of our project is to integrate young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the community by developing their social skills and their autonomy while focusing on informing and sensitizing the community about the obstacles and discrimination these people but also their families face.This project was born due to the need of children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder who participate much less often in social activities compared to the typical ones. Activities will be organized such as: occupational workshop activities to develop a set of skills for youngsters with ASD - weekly cooking workshop (mostly pastry products) - weekly art&handmade workshop - seasonal greening workshop information campaigns and fundraising activities thematic events (International Autism Awareness Day, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, etc.) socializing activities in the community, in order to develop and maintain the appropriate social behavior

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteers will be accommodated in apartments with shared bathroom and kitchen (the housing costs will be supported by the association). The rooms will be equipped with internet and extra facilities. Each room will be for 2 volunteers, divided by gender. Local transportation: a monthly local travel bus pass will be provided for each volunteer for project activities International transportation will be reimburced based on the distance band calculator of EU (https://ec.europa.eu/programmes/erasmus-plus/resources/distance-calculator_en)

Training during the activity

The project revolves around Autism Spectrum Disorder, but no prior experience or knowledge is necessary as the coordinating team will offer the necessary information and tools in working or assisting the youth diagnosed with ASD. The volunteering activities will take place in a private school for people with special needs and will be together with the therapists team at all time which will guide the volunteers.

Participant profile

Volunteering team: 6 volunteers - 4 international volunteers - 2 national volunteers within the Autism Spectrum Disorder We are looking for volunteers that host abilities related to: - photo/video and social media content creation - art and handmade crafts - creative and academic writing - cooking and/or greening The volunteers should be aged 18 to 30 years old (as stated by the program reglementations) with a good english level and determinated to carry out activities in the community!
