Activity description

In this project the volunteers help us to take care of the environment and promote sustainable lifestyle by doing different physical and practical tasks like: • start a garden plot at Villa Marina, our traditional Finnish summer cottage • help to clean the river by canoeing along it and picking up trash • clean beach areas in Villa Elba and public beaches and places in Kokkola • help a local football team during a football tournament with cleaning and practical arrangements During the project, volunteers: • learn how to garden and take care of plants • have a chance to try out Finnish summer cottage lifestyle • learn about sustainability practices in Finland and promote them • learn about work in international team

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation is organised in Youth Centre Villa Elba in beautiful traditional Finnish summer cottage Villa Marina by the sea. It is a simple house with no modern comforts: there are not indoor toilets, no indoor shower or running water in the house. Water is available from the well outside and there is an outdoor shower and sauna tent. House is heated with the help of the fireplace and electric radiators. Therefore, it requires patience and flexibility, as volunteers must adapt to a modest living environment. Volunteer will get bicycle. Once a week it is possible to go shopping with a car.

Training during the activity

Volunteers will take part in on-arrival training at Villa Elba.

Participant profile

The participants are young people seeking new possibilities to their lives. We especially welcome young people who are unemployed, face educational, economic, social or physical challenges or have low language skills. We wish that the volunteers are interested in evnironment and sustainability. No previous experience needed! Send your CV and motivation letter to international@villaelba.fi. If we think you could be the volunteer we look for, we will contact you and agree a time for an interview. If you do not hear from within 10 days, unfortunately we can not offer you a place this time.
