Activity description

The Lithuanian Education Centre for the Blind and Visually Impaired (LASUC) is a specialized school catering to students with visual impairments and complex disabilities. The primary focus is on providing education to these students. The centre comprises a gymnasium and counselling department specifically designed for visually impaired children. LASUC's mission is to empower students of various ages to be creative, community-oriented, and prepared for independent living. Additionally, the centre offers educational support to promote inclusive education in schools nationwide. A volunteer will engage in various activities, including assisting students in improving their English skills, supporting them during educational trips, helping with after-school activities like robotics, initiating and developing educational activities aligned with their interests and helping with various activities for pre-schoolers (Do you play a musical instrument? Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

As a volunteer in Vilnius, you will have the opportunity to be hosted in a comfortable flat alongside other like-minded volunteers who share your passion for community service. You will have your own private room, providing a space for rest and relaxation. You will also get: - a monthly bus card; - a monthly stipend for food and pocket money; - a team of dedicated professionals, including a mentor for personal support, a project coordinator to help you get the most out of your experience, and a tutor from the hosting organization to guide you every step of the way.

Training during the activity

Maximize your potential and make the most of your volunteer experience with our comprehensive support system! As a volunteer, you will receive On-Arrival and Mid-Term trainings organized by the National Agency, as well as regular meetings with our dedicated Coordinating Organization. We understand that reflection is key to personal growth, which is why hosting organisation offers regular reflection sessions. These sessions provide a safe and supportive environment to share your experiences, learn from one another, and grow both personally and professionally.

Participant profile

Creative, responsible, empathic, active, ambitious, speaks English, and interested in all things education. If this sounds like you, then we are waiting eagerly for your application. You will also: - get to know the principles of teaching a blind and visually impaired student; - experience the life of the blind through practice; - have a space for creativity and personal growth; - broaden horizons about inclusion and diversity.
