Activity description
This Volunteering Teams in High Priority Areas project will take place in Salt, Jordan, for 1 month (31/10-30/11/2023). MEDesTU will gather 18-30 year old volunteers: 10 Portuguese, 5 German and 25 Jordanian and 3 accompanying persons. This project aims to promote solidarity and lasting cooperation, through volunteering, between Jordanian, German and Portuguese youngsters and the local community, based on activities of “preservation of cultural heritage” using green and sustainable approaches as well as tackling the most urgent problems in Jordan, which are unemployment, Cultural heritage preservation and Heritage tourism. Volunteers will receive Arabic course, conduct Portuguese and English lessons for the local community, activities regarding environmental awareness in theory and practice, along with multimedia and other activities, personal projects and organize a conference about ESC and Erasmus+ Programme, as well as some lectures on eco-friendly lifestyle, and so much more!Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
These expenses are covered: accommodation, international and local transportation, visa, food, insurance and pocket money. Accommodation will be provided in a shared apartment or hostel. Food will be organized accordingly: volunteers will either get food allowance and cook by themselves, or the food is going to be provided to them. International and local transportation for project-related activities will be covered. The volunteers will be traveling together with accompanying persons.Training during the activity
Before departure: online pre-departure training at the end of June 2023 (dates to be confirmed). Upon arrival to Jordan: on-arrival training, which will help volunteers to settle and integrate.There will be sessions on the Erasmus+ Programme, ESC & Youthpass, in order to clarify rights & duties of this project, answer to questions, set the rules (accommodation, food, transport, tasks, etc.), basic necessary vocabulary; presentation of relevant stakeholders; intercultural learning, etc. During ESC: hands-on training on preservation of cultural heritage using green and sustainable approaches.Participant profile
10 Portuguese, 5 German and 25 Jordanian volunteers registered in the ESC Portal aged 18-30 years; with fewer opportunities (Social,Economic,Geographical,Educational,Cultural,Health,Refugees) aware of the impact of their participation, willing to help, exchange and participate in manual and collective work, respectful of differences; eager to adapt to a rural context, to communicate with locals, to be flexible and open-minded; motivated to learn, open to reflection, engaged in intercultural and intergenerational exchange, committed to disseminate results.Activity dates
