Description

The museum of shipbuilding of the West presents the history of the inland harbour of Redon (harbour of Rennes in the past). The main role of the volunteer will be to develop new actions of the museum together with local partners, especially with schools. Also he will be a support for the good function of museum and the cooperation with the french volunteers involved into the museum. Type of tasks : - reading and classyfying documents about shipbuilding for the collections - receiving the visitors, and eventually giving informations to the visitors about the collections - participating to the activities with the french volunteers (old mareens, ..) - organizing activities for the children : pupils and tourists during the summer - creating new games, videos, documents for the public (adults and children) - participating to the projects of the museum (Week of writers, summer activities..) - organizing activities about Europe together with the other EVS volunteers of Redon

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will share a furnished flat with the other EVS volunteers hosted in Redon, or with french people. Everyone has got his own single bedroom, and the flat mates have to share the living, kitchen and bathroom. The flat is 20 mn walk from the museum, and 5 from the town center. The volunteer can also use a bicycle to move in the town. The volunteer will get a monthly allowance for his food.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will get the support from the team of the museum, and from his mentor, who will take time to listen to him, answer his questions and guide him in his activities. On another hand, the volunteer will have the support of the EVS coordinator in Mapar (the coordinating organization), who will support him during all his stay. The volunteer will also follow French classes during all the length of the project.

Participant profile

The volunteer should be available on the dates of the project (July 2018 until beginning 2019). The volunteer should be from EU nationality. The town of Redon and the region of Brittany has an important local heritage. The museum is concerned about the past of canals and sailors, the candidate should be interested by the transmission of information about this to the public, especially to a young public. Basis of french language will be appreciated. According to a planning made in advance, from April the candidate will be asked to work some Saturdays and Sundays.
