Activity description

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to get experience in the social sector, working with an exceptional community organisation in Cornwall. CHAOS http://chaosgroupcornwall.co.uk is a diverse and innovative NGO which provides services and opportunities to disadvantaged people in rural and city locations around Truro. The issues they deal with include disability, educational special needs, unemployment, and other types of social isolation. There is 1 short term EVS position available (1 from Finland, Italy, Portugal or Czech Rep). Volunteer will experience a range of different work including: - CHAOS Cafe: an inclusive community cafe - CHAOS Creative: radio, video and social media activity This will be a truly life-changing experience.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers will live together (single rooms) in a farmhouse at CHAOS Farm, situated 16 km from Truro city, in walking distance of the villages of Portloe and Veryan, and close to beautiful beaches. (You will be encouraged to join village clubs and community activities). As well as local bus services, daily transport may also be provided by the CHAOS team. The house has a fully equipped kitchen, so you will be responsible for your own food. Each volunteer will receive monthly allowances of £200 for food plus £160 for pocket money.

Training during the activity

You will attend an EVS on-arrival training course, and later mid-term training organised by the UK National Agency. You will have a personal development plan. linked to Youthpass. Ongoing training, mentoring and support will be provided by CHAOS and Momentum World.

Participant profile

You must be from an eligible country. You must be motivated to spend 5 months in England, and you must enjoy living in a remote rural area, outdoor activities, animals etc. You must be adaptable, interested in other cultures and able to cooperate with other volunteers. Most important, you must be interested in the work of CHAOS: we will ask you about this. ). You need a basic level of English and want to learn more. You do not need any qualifications. We encourage applicants with fewer opportunities.
