Description of organisation

Houens Odde Spejdercenter is the biggest scout centre in Northern Europe. It is owned by KFUM-Spejderne i Danmark - the biggest scout association in Denmark with more than 25,000 members in Denmark. The vision of KFUM-spejderne i Danmark is: Together we move the world - on purpose. KFUM-spejderne i Danmark gives children and young people the courage to take responsibility for a better world together. We do this by developing valuable skills and creating meaningful communities with life and enthusiasm that are attractive to more children and young people. This means that the individual scout feels proud and recognized for making a difference. In the KFUM-spejderne i Danmark, we will achieve our vision by focusing on three areas:
- Skilled leaders create strong communities
We believe that skilled leaders are the key to creating strong and meaningful communities for children and young people. The good scout work must be more attractive and accessible to more people.
- The scout group as a local powerhouse
We will work to strengthen scout groups, districts and centers so that they become attractive power centers that can attract new target groups, scouts and partners.
- We reach beyond ourselves
We want the individual scout to take co-responsibility for making the world a little better, and thereby experience pride in contributing to and being a part of something bigger and meaningful. We will do this by reaching beyond ourselves and working across scouts, non-scouts, cultures, and national borders.

KFUM- Spejderne i Danmark is a part of the worldwide scout organisation. As a part of the scout organisation we educate and train children and young people through the scout methods and scout activities into children and young people who take an active citizenship in the local, regional, national and international community. The main ideas of our scout organisation is to educate children and youth through i.e. activities, learning by doing, and children teach children. By doing this we help developing children and young people in to becoming independent, honest, democratic and responsible adults who have respect for their surroundings, environment and nature. Our main activities are, therefore, mostly concentrated on nature and environment activities.
Houens Odde Spejdercenter is the main training and education centre of KFUM-spejderne in Denmark. Houens Odde Spejdercenter uses therefore the same ideology as our scout organisation when training and hosting volunteers. Here the centre provides activities, food and lodging for guests on training, camps or conferences. The target groups at the centre come from local, regional, national and international schools, kinder gardens, and scout groups. Each year the centre has around 30.000 overnight guests on this account. We also provide activities , food, lodging and facilities for local, regional, national and international companies and youth and democratic organisations on training or conference. There are around 10.000 overnights guests on this account.
Houens Odde Spejdercenter is partly run by a staff of permanent employees and by a staff of Danish and foreign volunteers .
