description of organisation

The Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour (UPPA) is a public multidisciplinary university located in the south-west of France near Spain. It is a multi-sites university, with five campuses located in the cities of Pau, Bayonne, Anglet, Tarbes and Mont de Marsan.
UPPA is one of the 18 French universities recognized as a university of excellence thanks to the I-Site label of excellence (Initiatives - Scientific Innovation, Territories, Economy) obtained in 2017 for the "E2S - Energy and Environment Solutions" initiative in consortium with the INRA and the INRIA. In March 2022, the Prime Minister announced that UPPA would be awarded the label on a permanent basis. UPPA is now officially one of the 17 French Universities of excellence.
UPPA has taken a European dimension and is strongly supported by the European Commission. From 2020, UPPA is a member of the UNITA Alliance, composed by six comprehensive research universities from five countries: France, Italy, Portugal, Romania and Spain. The Alliance gathers together more than 160,000 students and 13,000 staff members. The objective of UNITA is to build a new model of integrated European university.
Last but not least, UPPA has a new project named IREKIA. Within the five campuses, the Bayonne and Anglet campuses together host almost 4,000 students. UPPA plans to double the number of its students on the Basque coast in the next 10 years within the framework of the IREKIA project.

This organisation holds a European Solidarity Corps Quality Label. The Quality Label certifies that the organisation is able to run projects in compliance with the principles and objectives of the European Solidarity Corps.
