Description of organisation

Established in 2002 and based in Brussels, IFOAM Organics Europe is the EU regional group of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements. IFOAM Organics Europe (legal name IFOAM EU Group) is a non-profit, membership-based organisation representing 200+ member organisations among 34 different countries, from all EU-27, EFTA and candidate countries. Our work spans the entire organic agri-food chain, from farmers, processors, retailers, certifiers, consultants, traders and researchers to environmental and consumer advocacy groups. We closely work with IFOAM Organics International, the international branch of the federation, which has itself 800 affiliates in more than 100 countries across the world. Our structure is unique in being the only body with representation from all over Europe that facilitates transnational efforts within organic agriculture and brings the position of the organic movement towards the EU institutions. We call for a fair, environmentally conscious, healthy and caring food and farming system widely adopted in Europe and driven by the support of citizens, based on the 4 principles of organic farming: health, ecology, fairness and care, and putting forward a holistic farming model which is capable to cope best with existing threats like climate change, biodiversity loss, or soil and water pollution. IFOAM Organics Europe will work to achieve the target set in the F2F and Biodiversity Strategies to reach 25% of EU organic land by 2030.
