The non-profit association "Château de Callenelle" was created in 1989 to organize a reception and accommodation center for adults with intellectual disabilities.
We welcome anyone aged 18 or over and suffering from an intellectual disability. Associated disorders such as epilepsy, behavioral disorders, stabilized psychosis, sensory or motor disabilities are also welcomed, provided the project implemented or human and material resources allow it.
The search for the best possible institutional balance and the assessment of the adequacy between the needs of the candidate and the service offered motivate the admission process. No criteria of sex, philosophical conviction, ethnic origin and social situation can be retained.
The association is moving, together with the reception of French residents, more towards the A.W.I.P.H. and admits residents of Belgian origin under the guise of a so-called nominative agreement. Since 2013, the non-profit organization has been granted a care authorization for the reception of 60 people on the Château site.
The values represent the intangible heritage of our project. They constitute our identity in our appearance, our behavior and our way of reacting to current… and unforeseen situations. They shape the way we think and interact; they guarantee the cohesion and consistency of our reception approach.
For a long time, the basic values that underpin our work have been:
• Respect for the person
• To be in relation
• Make each partner
• Allow everyone to realize themselves
Concretely crossing the value of respect and the status of the adult can be a particularly rich exercise. This can be done taking into account the most important spheres in everyone's life: the residential sphere, the sphere of activities and work, the sphere of leisure, the sphere of relational, emotional and sexual life, the sphere of of the family, the sphere of health as well as the sphere of interior or spiritual life. This ultimately questions the meaning of our interventions; interventions which must also guarantee the person the right to his "no man's land" or secret garden.
