Description of organisation

MOAS is an international humanitarian response NGO created to mitigate human suffering. Launching in 2014 we were the first NGO to provide search and rescue in the Mediterranean, where we rescued over 40,000 children, women and men who were undertaking perilous maritime crossings in an attempt to reach safety in Europe. Starting in 2017 we have since expanded our programming and target communities significantly. From 2017 till 2019 MOAS ran primary healthcare clinics in the Rohingya refugee camps of Cox's Bazar and treated over 90,000 patients in total. MOAS also delivered food aid during this period of emergent crisis. Since 2019 we have now been providing Flood and Water Safety training to the Rohingya refugees and host community volunteers in the Cox's Bazar region of Bangladesh. In addition to this we are also beginning the design of some fire safety and response projects in the region as part of a wider disaster risk reduction strategy. Meanwhile, in Yemen and Somalia we deliver life-saving famine relief products, in the form of ready to use therapeutic foods and pharmaceutical supplies, to local in-country partners were we also support distribution through logistic and systems support. We have, to date, shipped over 225 tones of therapeutic food products into these crisis affected regions as well as almost 250,000 Euros worth of pharmaceuticals. Our projects in Malta, where our head office is based, see us providing asylum seekers and refugees on the island with technology packs, learning resources and service access to support their learning and integration. In addition to these activities MOAS is also dedicated to educating the public around the impacts of forced migration and crises on vulnerable communities and to advocating on behalf of said communities through public campaigning.

Over the years our life saving aid and services to Bangladesh, Yemen, Somalia and throughout Europe have reached hundreds of thousands of people globally and have consistently saved lives. MOAS' focus is on migration related crises and disaster risk reduction (DRR) and specializes in creating rapid response, innovative programing designed to meet the specific needs of our beneficiary community. Our main objective is to reduce suffering and mitigate loss of life by providing aid and services to crisis affected communities across the world.
