Description of organisation

Das FEZ-Berlin ist Europas größtes gemeinnütziges Kinder-, Jugend- und Familienzentrum. Es bietet kreatives Spiel, Spaß und Erholung und vereint in seinem Programm Bildung, Erlebnis und Kultur. Einzigartig sind die inhaltlichen Angebote zu den Schwerpunkten Globales Lernen und Bildung zur Nachhaltigen Entwicklung, Europa- und Internationale Bildung sowie kulturelle Bildung. 100.000 m² Outdoor- und 13.000 m² Indoor-Nutzfläche machen das FEZ zum idealen Ort für eine Vielzahl von Veranstaltungen. Es wird betrieben durch das Kinder- und Jugendfreizeitzentrum und die Landesmusikakademie in einer gemeinnützigen Betriebsgesellschaft des Landes Berlin. Das FEZ-Berlin organisiert schulergänzende Angebote für SchülerInnen aller Klassenstufen, internationale Jugendbegegnungen sowie Freizeit- und Ferienangebote für Kinder und Familien zu den Themen Europa, Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung, Kultur, Kunst, Theater, Medien, Ökologie, Technik, Raumfahrt, Kindermuseum sowie Spielpädagogik. Diese Angebote werden von rund 100 festangestellten Mitarbeitern, ca. 15 Praktikanten, 2-4 europäischen Freiwilligen, Freiwilligen im sozialen Jahr im kulturellen Bereich, Zivildienstleistenden etc. sowie monatlich rund 100 freien und ca. 10 ehrenamtlichen Mitarbeitern realisiert. Highlights der Angebote sind z.B. Musikfestivals, Internationale Wochenenden, Kultur Festivals oder das Puppentheaterfest – an den Wochenenden bestimmt jeweils ein anderes Thema das Geschehen im Haus, sowie die Ferienprogramme. Ferienattraktionen wie „FEZITTY – die Hauptstadt der Kinder“ oder „Die Hogwarts-Zauberschule“ sind von den Kindern als „die Renner“ benannt worden. Von Kindertagesstätten und Schulklassen wird das FEZ als außerschulischer Lernort oder auch als Ausflugsort genutzt.
Jährlich besuchen 850.000 Menschen das FEZ.

FEZ-Berlin is the largest non-profit children, youth and family centre in Europe. It offers creative games, fun and recreation and combines Education, Adventure and Culture in its programme. The activities in the fields of global learning and education for sustainable development, European and International education as well as cultural education are unique. Within the expansive 100.000 sqm outdoor-area and the 13.000 sqm indoor-area, FEZ-Berlin is an ideal location for a multitude of events and activities. FEZ-Berlin is run as a non-profit organisation of the Land Berlin. The main component parts are the work with children, youth and families as well as the Berlin State Music Academy. FEZ-Berlin organizes extracurricular Programmes for school pupils of all ages, international youth meetings as well as holiday events for children and families on topics as diverse as Europe, sustainability, culture, art, theatre, media, ecology, technology, space travel, a children’s museum as well as team building. 100 employees actively produce these programmes together with around 15 trainees, 2-4 European volunteers, volunteers from federal programmes, civil service collegues and some 100 time based helpers and a dozen other volunteers. Highlights are for example our music festival, international weekends, culture festivals and puppet theatre festival. On the other weekends we highlight special topics. The holidays are our highlight events. “FEZitty - the capital city of the children”, or “Hogwarts - school for magicians” have been named as the blockbusters among the holiday activities by our young visitors. FEZ is incorporated as an extracurricular education service into the programmes of day-care centres and schools. Each year an estimated 850.000 people visit FEZ.
