description of organisation

We consider our work a process of Game-Theater-Education, which guides the participants through an experiential activity, focusing on a particular social problem, in a safe zone. We enter into a game together that emerges to be a performative act, through which contextual learning happens.
The name of the organization can be translated as “Open Circle Association”. We work with Theater in Education, which is a participatory theater methodology. Our main target groups are children and young people aged 6-20. We work with one class at a time. We offer programs in Hungarian, English and Spanish languages. Open new aspects particularly for young people to become dynamically balanced persons with themselves, their environment and the society. We would like to assist them to be able to help each other, deal with their conflicts, and focus their energy to a common goal. Our activities primarily take place in the Central-Hungarian Region, but we travel to anywhere in the country and also abroad if we are invited.
The main fields of our activity: Theatre in Education, Drama in Education, Young people's theatre, Talent mentorship, Trainings/workshops for community building, Trainings for teachers, youth workers, facilitators,
Thematic events and camps with youth groups, Applied theatre projects with international volunteers and aspiring youthworkers.
Theatre in Education (TIE) – The basis of the work is the use of theatre as a tool for learning. TIE companies employ actor/teachers working with one class at a time. This is critical to the work we do which is highly participative, requiring the highest teacher-student ratio possible, and it distinguishes TIE from any other form of theatre, including young people's theatre. In TIE learning is not instrumental but conceptual, using the power of theatre to resonate with our own lives in order to reach new social understandings about the world we inhabit, to explore the human condition and behaviour in order that it may be integrated into young people's minds and in doing so, make them be more human by allowing them to know themselves. Young people's theatre: A group of young people, who choose theatre as their spare time activity. Through the drama methodology and tools we use, their key competences improve. Also, our task is to create theatre performances, courses, camps, festivals, meetings, and professional discussions, educational and cultural programs.
We launch such unique and innovative cultural activities as searching for relationship between theater education and dance / physical theater ("Gyökerek" project 2016-2017, "Keresztvíz project 2018), experimenting with puppet theatre in education ("PUPPA" project 2019-2023), and incorporating the achievements of the digital world into theatre/drama forms (CYBER telephone application for simulation of group situations), and the "Nyitott Szemek Fesztivál" (the nationwide vision of theater education and theater pedagogy programs), "Stúdió"(actor-teacher training).
Our work is mostly art, drama and theatre based. Its' most significant target group is the age group of 5-20 years old youth, studying in public education. For underprivileged students we offer our programs for free of charge.
We also participate in the life of a group of young people with special needs since 2009. We do drama based activities weekly with the Maybug group in Dunabogdány (a town nearby Budapest).
Nyitott Kör (Open Circle Association) is a theatrical initiative that being a spiritual workshop, would like to provide adequate circumstances for contemporary theatrical experiments for young people. Beyond the created performances, the aim of the group is to educate and begin a dialogue with young people through theatre, to direct them in searching for their position in the society, as responsible humans in communities which establishes values.
