description of organisation

MIA is a non-profit organization based in Portugal, run by volunteers who are in the most majority connected to education and social studies field. Our goal is to promote the holistic development of children/youngsters, mainly through non formal educational methodologies. Above all, we aim to empower people, value the competences they already have and promote learning practices, throughout life.
MIA is born in 2014 after some of its members had experience the joy of international volunteering both through the ERASMUS+ program and individual actions in countries such as India, Poland and Mozambique. At that time it became clear for this group of people that it was possible and desirable to put their knowledge, skills and will towards others with fewer opportunities.
In one way or another we’ve all had an active role in the education field, therefore we recognize the importance of both formal and non-formal education opportunities throughout people’s lives.
We believe in the potential of the younger generation and we believe they must be empowered to participate actively in their communities.
For that reason, we are always looking for applications that will allow us to create learning opportunities to the young people that come our way.
