Description of organisation

Jaunuolių dienos centras (JDC) is situated in the very centre of Panevėžys (Lithuania), that is why we are well known and visible in the local community. We started counting years of our activity from 1996, the year when Panevėžys Town Council established this centre. Our centre provides social daycare services for intellectually impaired young people.
Our mission is to fully satisfy the needs of service users by specifically planning and organizing activities in JDC, improving the life quality of participants and paying the utmost attention to the achievements of young adults.
While providing services, we undoubtedly concentrate on activities stimulating interaction with other people as well as developing and maintaining working skills. We also try to advocate and promote the rights and interests of our users. Motivating a continuous development and striving for new achievements are some of the most significant aims of our institution. The centre aims to build up confidence and ability to maintain an independent lifestyle along with improving physical and mental health. Participants are offered special activities and events, nutrition care, transportation service and personal hygiene services.
Our activities are based on individual care plans mutually developed by JDC staff and users, paying careful attention to personal needs and skills as well as recommendations of other specialists.
JDC also attempts to coordinate meeting the needs of users with those of their respective families and caregivers. Furthermore, we try to involve caregivers and parents in common activities and hobbies.
At present we have 70 service users and 43 staff members (social workers, individual support staff, general support staff and administrative staff) in the centre.
The uniqueness of our centre is active participation in local, national and international projects. We are proud to welcome volunteers from various parts of the world, which enhances participants and staff skill and knowledge level promotes new friendships, broadens the horizons and teaches to cherish national traditions and share them with others.
We are a friendly, open to innovations and learning community, which is trying to socialize and cooperate with other institutions by organizing theatre and dance festivals and users ‘handicrafts fairs. We are staffed and monitored for the consistent improvement of user’s good stable lifestyle, promotion of self – sufficiency and integration.
Our motto is “give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime “.
